  • The Upgraded Way

Most college admissions resources guide students through one primary college essay, but we know from experience that supplemental essays change lives—and planning for these projects is embedded into our work with students from the start.

Each summer, we help students make tangible progress toward their college-specific supplemental content well before August 1st—with strategic framework-building steps that make the entire application process more simple, sustainable, and successful.

  • We keep track of supplemental essay prompts, changes, and trends for our community—so we can help students start making tangible progress on their supplemental essay content during the summer.

We unite prompt projections with our experience-driven supplemental essay approaches to guide new applicants through strategic framework-building steps.

This foundational framework helps students build clarity in their messaging, confidence in their strengths, a more balanced schedule, and a process that unfolds with much more ease.

  • Many colleges will ask students in the Class of 2025 to respond to the same prompts our admitted students addressed in our Successful Examples.

Most colleges have required the same prompts for 2 years in a row, and many have required the same prompts for 3 years or more. Some colleges change their prompts more frequently—and those prompts tend to be the most creative.

Plan to check in on changes August 1st, 2024. That’s when colleges will publish their official Supplemental Essay Prompts for undergraduate applicants—you can find them under the My Colleges section of the Common Application.

  • Whether you are navigating the supplemental essay process independently, with a family member, with a teacher, or with a mentor from our team, having a strategic supplemental essay approach is immensely helpful for all students.

That change can trim your entire application process in half, help you toward a more sustainable schedule, and give you more clarity and confidence throughout the entire process. For our past students, our team members, and for our founder, this method has opened doors to life-changing opportunities—and it’s one of the reasons we’re here today.

  • ‣ Successful Essay Response (Prompt 1):

From growing into a more confident leader, leading diverse teams, guiding fundraising initiatives, and more, I’ve learned that leadership involves not only developing my own strengths--leadership is based upon uplifting the strengths of others.

Hoping to study with the Canfield Business Honors Program and double-major in International Business or Marketing, I am especially interested in channeling business leadership toward creating new opportunities for under-represented communities.

I appreciate Canfield BHP’s emphasis on leadership to uplift diverse groups, organizations, and networks. In Robotics, fundraising is essential for our program, especially in our Title 1 magnet school; I’ve worked diligently to maintain sponsor relationships and empower younger teammates in business outreach. At UT, with discussions and analysis of real-world problems in Organizational Behavior, along with hands-on internship experience, I’d love to explore ways to promote cooperation, synergy, and empowerment for every individual in diverse corporate settings.

With MUN, I’ve learned that establishing a sustainable global economy is only possible through multinational cooperation. I hope to investigate emerging first-world-backed markets and group digital currencies in Global Political Economy. I’m also interested in methods to help divided groups establish common ground. In diversity-focused courses like Intercultural Management, I’d like to explore negotiation, empathy, and compromise within groups at any level.

Above all, I’m thrilled by the prospect of Canfield BHP’s tight-knit, collaborative community of students and mentors. Last summer, I learned from team collaboration and enthusiastic mentors with the Mercy College Business Leadership Program. At UT Austin, I’d love to collaborate with peers to creatively problem-solve in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. I also would love to learn insights from outstanding Canfield mentors like Dr. Andres Almazan, with his expertise in business leadership in our increasingly-globalized world.

With a UT Austin education, I can channel leadership toward community-specific needs, promoting equity, and creating new opportunities for all.

  • ‣ Successful Essay Response (Prompt 2):

From conversations during car rides to mentoring students in debate and compromise, I’ve grown in spaces that taught me new ideas. At UT Austin, I look forward to a collaborative community that will show me even more--from diverse perspectives to globally-minded considerations.

As a passionate leader in debate and MUN, I am especially drawn to UT’s emphasis on embracing global perspectives and addressing global challenges. I’ve mentored many younger debaters, debated on issues ranging from financial literacy to ethics in artificial intelligence, and even guided compromise as a MUN Chair. At UT Austin, in diversity-focused McCombs courses like Intercultural Management and Global Entrepreneurship, I look forward to discussing and collaborating with peers, exploring visions for change and unity across difference. I would also love to channel my passions for grappling with global issues toward UTexas Debate, joining peers across disciplines in discussing solutions.

As a hopeful future business leader, I also want to increase opportunities for marginalized communities--especially through financial, career, and academic empowerment. With my school community, I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds as a Peer Tutor, and have helped increase youth opportunities with our after-school Community Learning Center. At UT, I’d love to explore ways to empower new communities to pursue opportunities that wouldn’t be possible for prior generations. With the unique Office of Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship, I hope to help local Austin students to follow their entrepreneurial dreams and foster upward mobility. I’d also work to inspire young students in arts and academics, with local Austin initiatives like Creative Action and Austin Partners in Education. Through outreach with The Project and the Community Engagement Collective, I’d uplift diversity and promote equity across Austin communities.

At UT Austin, I can unite with others who embrace differences--and find ways to help all communities seek common ground.

  • ‣ Successful Essay Response (Prompt 3):

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to learn in diverse spaces. As a hopeful business leader and activist, I aim not only to innovate--I want to change the world by empowering diverse communities. At UT Austin, I’d discover how to channel my future leadership toward improving access to education, career opportunities, and financial empowerment for historically-marginalized communities.

Passionate about fair wages, human rights, and international cooperation, I appreciate UT’s emphasis on social responsibility and awareness of local and global inequities. Through International Finance, I’d explore methods to promote opportunities abroad with micro-finance, supporting small sustainability initiatives, and more. With amazing McCombs International Experiences, I can even explore how small business drives community development in Oaxaca, or how research in Sydney inspires global sustainability initiatives.

From Debate discussions on financial literacy, barriers to access, and more, it is especially important to me to work against inequities. At UT, I hope to assist within Austin and explore wider-scale solutions. With the UT Community Engagement Collective and initiatives with The Project, I hope to increase access to educational and employment opportunities, especially in neighborhoods where residents have historically faced linguistic barriers. Through my studies, I’d also unite with McCombs peers toward large-scale equity solutions, by exploring social innovation through coursework and team-based projects.

From working to increase opportunities in my diverse magnet school, I’m also passionate about helping young students to find academic and career-related confidence. In Austin, with College Readiness Services for Underrepresented Students, I’d love to empower local high schoolers to pursue their dreams. With UT’s Office of Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship, I also hope to assist initiatives to inspire Austin youth to become entrepreneurs and community-builders of the future.

With the UT community--and as a hopeful future leader--I will embrace differences, promote equity, and create better opportunities for all.
