Successful Supplemental Essay Example From Our Accepted Alumni Student:
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to learn in diverse spaces. As a hopeful business leader and activist, I aim not only to innovate—I want to change the world by empowering diverse communities. At UT Austin, I’d discover how to channel my future leadership toward improving access to education, career opportunities, and financial empowerment for historically-marginalized communities.
Passionate about fair wages, human rights, and international cooperation, I appreciate UT’s emphasis on social responsibility and awareness of local and global inequities. Through International Finance, I’d explore methods to promote opportunities abroad with micro-finance, supporting small sustainability initiatives, and more. With amazing McCombs International Experiences, I can even explore how small business drives community development in Oaxaca, or how research in Sydney inspires global sustainability initiatives.
From Debate discussions on financial literacy, barriers to access, and more, it is especially important to me to work against inequities. At UT, I hope to assist within Austin and explore wider-scale solutions. With the UT Community Engagement Collective and initiatives with The Project, I hope to increase access to educational and employment opportunities, especially in neighborhoods where residents have historically faced linguistic barriers. Through my studies, I’d also unite with McCombs peers toward large-scale equity solutions, by exploring social innovation through coursework and team-based projects.
From working to increase opportunities in my diverse magnet school, I’m also passionate about helping young students to find academic and career-related confidence. In Austin, with College Readiness Services for Underrepresented Students, I’d love to empower local high schoolers to pursue their dreams. With UT’s Office of Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship, I also hope to assist initiatives to inspire Austin youth to become entrepreneurs and community-builders of the future.
With the UT community—and as a hopeful future leader—I will embrace differences, promote equity, and create better opportunities for all.
