Successful Supplemental Essay Example From Our Accepted Alumni Student:
Childhood talks on trains built my confidence. Representing my non-profit showed me I could make change through being vulnerable.
However, it was difficult for me to share everything. Growing up in a mostly-white town, I was shy about my [Cultural] identity.
With time, I found strength through connecting with others who felt similar—my [Language] class peers. In my [Language] classes, I made new friends as we discussed the origins of [cultural tradition] and stories of [Spiritual Figure]. We even organized a food and clothing drive to donate to homeless shelters throughout [City], my neighboring city.
I expanded the donation drive beyond the intimate community of [Language] classes. I took initiative to promote the event throughout my high school—speaking with other students of all backgrounds about the mission.
Now, I am brave when sharing the causes I care about—and sharing my identity—because the change I can make in those moments are worth it.
