Successful Supplemental Essay Example From Our Accepted Alumni Student:

My love for science was, admittedly, born from childhood idealism. With time, as I learned of societal inequities and still-needed progress, I became determined to practice medicine with an empathy toward diverse backgrounds, difficulties, and stories.

As an aspiring physician and researcher, I hope to explore solutions through Columbia’s mission-focused community. Biochemistry courses and projects would reveal ways I can assist innovation—from exploring genetic screening in Project Laboratory in Molecular Genetics to researching with an inspiring mentor through Independent Biological Research.

Shadowing at a [City] hospital and conducting outreach showed me glaring inequities in places only miles away. At Columbia, I hope to unite with peers to work against injustice. I would love to assist outreach with Community Impact—empowering through STEM education and healthcare advocacy. And, through Core Curriculum collaboration in Frontiers of Science and more, I hope to explore ways to promote healthcare access—in [Home City], NYC, and beyond.
